I have accumulated a good amount of people I follow on Twitter since first starting.  My following list ranges from Writing Arts classmates to Perez Hilton, the famous gossip blogger, to Rev Run, the best advice giver, and to Teachingjobcasts, which sends tweets about teaching jobs opening up across America.  I decided to write about celebrity in the sports world, Olympic gold medal gymnast, Shawn Johnson.

Shawn Johnson is an American gymnast who competes regionally, nationally, and internationally.  You could have seen her winning the gold medal for the balance beam in the 2008 Summer Olympics, a silver all-around medal, and a team silver medal.  She also competed and won last season’s Dancing with the Stars which I was a regular voter for her and teammate Mark Ballas.

Shawn has 42, 702 followers but is only following 45 people.  She follows other celebrities such as fellow gymnast Nastia Liukin and Ellen DeGeneres.  She also follows celebrities and dancers from this season’s Dancing with the Stars such as Melissa Joan Hart and Lacey Schwimmer.

Most of Shawn’s tweets are about the different campaigns she is a part of.  She has tweeted back to Melissa Joan Hart wishing her good luck on this week’s dance of DWTS.  She has tweeted about hoping Chicago’s chance to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.  She is promoting her followers to vote for Design-A-Dance and raising money for March of Dimes.  Aside from campaigns, she has tweeted personal things she is doing like hanging with friends or watching a movie.  Since Shawn Johnson is now considered a celebrity, her image has now changed.  Before she was a hopeful Olympic gymnast and now she is a national icon.  You can tell by her tweets and her following list that she has gotten to have some amazing opportunities and chances of a lifetime.

I follow Shawn Johnson because I have an interest in gymnastics.  I was a gymnast and cheerleaders for 15 years of my life and have regretted ever stopping.  Shawn Johnson can be an inspiration to a lot of young girls interested in her sport.
