God is love, Rev RUN October 5, 2009

When first hearing in class that a requirement was to have a Twitter account and to send at least three tweets a day, I was not looking forward to the assignment. I wasn’t really familiar with Twitter and the whole idea behind it.  I now see that Twitter can be a valuable resource, for pure entertainment, or for motivation!

One of the first people I decided to start following on Twitter was Rev Run.  Rev Run in formally known for being apart of RUN DMC.  He recently came back into the public eye with the television show on MTV Run’s House.   The show basically is about his family and what they do on a day to day basis.  At the end of each show Rev Run is showed taking a bubble bath and typing on the cell phone.  He narrates what he is typing and it is always motivational.  His words of wisdom correspond with that is going on in either his life or someone in his family’s life.  He always closes out with “God is love, Rev Run.

Until now I never knew who he was typing these motivational sayings to.  I actually never really even thought about it. But of course he is posting them on Twitter!

Rev Run posts the minimum of five times a day.  He is constantly posting things; they maybe short and sweet or long and thoughtful.  Some of them make you think for yourself, and sometimes he spells his message out for you.  Some days Rev Run has themes,  his post for that day will all be about gratitude and thanking some one, some days his post are very religious and mention god or prayer, and sometimes they are just motivational in the sense of thinking positive.  I have come to the conclusion that Rev Run is positive thinker because as we all know life isn’t perfect.  There are obstacles we must over come to reach success and there are struggles.  Rev never posts anything negative.  He never says what a bad day he is having, or how he just wants to quit.  Because we all know life isn’t perfect, we know that everyone has days like these where we just wish we didn’t even get out a bed. With this, Rev never has post relating to his gloomy day, or bad situation, just the positive aspects.  They say to every situation there is a good side, Rev Run must only see the good.

Rev Run follows no one on Twitter yet has 350,498 followers.  Apparently his posts are meaningful to a lot of people.  I decided to follow Rev Run because I like the show Run’s House and what he has to say.  I figured he would be motivational through Twitter but not as active as he is.  Every few hours he is updating his post with more great things to say.  I don’t know how someone can say so positive.  It seems as though he always sees light at the end of the tunnel and believes everything happens for a reason; that everything will be alright if you stay positive.

Rev Run’s bio says the things he is in life; husband, daddy, king of rock, rock of fame inductee, star of hit show Run’s House.  After following him, I believe his bio is in order of his priorities in life.  First is he is a family man, will do anything for this wife and children.  Next he is a music man; he loves music, and uses it to express himself, and lastly his show on MTV.

Rev Run is someone I suggest everyone follow! He can only motivate you, make you smile on a bad, or just remind you to be thankful what you have.  A tweet I remember that has impacted me is, “if everyone threw their problems in a pile, I bet that you would pick yours out over others, be thankful for what you have.”  Sometimes I can get really frustrated with school work. I am a procrastinator so when it all piles up I get overwhelmed and crack! When I think about this quote it makes me be thankful that I have to opportunity to go to college.  I guess I would take my problems out of the pile over others, things could always be worse.  THINK POSITIVE!

Most people seem to follow others on Twitter who are an inspiration, or someone who’s extremely interesting. I don’t follow people on Twitter for the reason. Following celebrities on Twitter is something I really enjoy doing. I don’t follow celebrities because their an inspiration to me. I follow them because I’m all about the celebrity gossip. I follow celebrities so much that I actually feel like I’m their real life friend, which is kind of weird. One celebrity that I follow the most is Perez Hilton.

Perez Hilton is a famous gossip columnist for celebrity news. He has created his own website, which has become extremely popular over the years. Perez Hilton is also quite famous for his Twitter account. He is known for getting into verbal fights through Twitter with other celebrities. The worst of his arguments were between Will I Am, Demi Moore, Travis Barker, Stephanie Pratt, and Lily Allen. These feuds were pretty heated between Perez and celebrities. I find it actually humorous seeing two celebrities’ lash out at each other through Twitter. I’m obviously not the only one who feels that way because Perez Hilton has a total of 1,514,131 followers. Even though Perez starts a lot of drama, he seems to have a lot of love for his fans. Average people just like me tweet to Perez Hilton, and sometimes he’ll actually tweet them back! I think its awesome how he acknowledges his fans personally through Twitter.

No, Perez Hilton is sadly not my role model or my inspiration. He’s just that guy I turn to on Twitter to get my daily celebrity gossip.

This video shows the talents that autistic children have.  Even though this child is autistic he is talented.  His talent is his artwork.  He is able to draw beautiful books pictures from the books that he reads.  It is a must see video.

The pictures this child draws are amazing.  He is only ten-years-old but he draws his pictures in such detail.  I know that we will be hearing more about this child in the future.  You might as well check his artwork now.

My brother is autistic as well and he enjoys drawing.  Right now he is working on making Christmas cards to sell.  He draws the pictures and I design the card.  These pictures are some designs that he has made for previous cards.  He has made cards for a couple of years.  He sells them to friends and family.

We Feel Fine is a website created by Jonathan Harris and Sep Kamvar.  This site shows the feelings of individuals through a number of weblogs.  This site was created to find out how people feel in different areas and how men and women feel.  This site is interesting looking but I do not get the purpose of the site.  I feel as though this site is so vague that an individual would have to spend a significant amount of time before they get any meaning out of the site.

In reality who has the time spend that much time on the site.  I feel as though someone would have to have no life to get any enjoyment with this site.  Well I am over exaggerating a bit but still you need hours of free time to really start to understand this site.  How many people have that much time?

Well I want your opinion of the site.  Check it out and tell me your opinions.  Do you like it or not. If so why do you like it or not.  Give these comments and any other comments you are thinking.  Check out the website http://www.wefeelfine.org/

Twitter has become extremely popular over the past year. Twitter is growing with popularity each day, and new applications are being added frequently by many people. Applications on Twitter are what make this site more interesting. One can add the application “Just Tweet Me” to search for whom they might be compatible with. There’s also an application called “TwitPics,” which allows a Twitter user to upload pictures that other followers can view. An application that I seem to find most interesting is “TweetMeme.”

“TweetMeme” is an application used to show the most popular links used on Twitter. “TweetMeme” separates interests into different categories such as comedy, entertainment, gaming, lifestyle, science, sports, technology, and world and business. One can also view popular links for videos and images viewed on Twitter. The most twitted video I found interesting and somewhat hilarious is Amy Winehouse trying to rap. I never knew this video existed until I logged on to “TweetMeme.” Listed along the side are top tweets that are most popular on Twitter at the moment. I enjoy keeping up with popular news, and what the hot topics are currently. Entertainment news is what really interests me the most. Following celebrity gossip and news is something I like to do, which is mainly why I like the “TweetMeme” application. This Twitter application is a perfect way to stay in touch with today’s current most talked about news.

Today, a video of Anne Frank back in 1941 was resurfaced and shown on YouTube. This video is currently the most tweeted about on Twitter. It has recieved about 1730 tweets so far. Its a very short, silent clip, and Anne Frank is shown on it for a total of 9 seconds. This is the only video we have of Anne Frank, which is why so many people are tweeting about it.

I have accumulated a good amount of people I follow on Twitter since first starting.  My following list ranges from Writing Arts classmates to Perez Hilton, the famous gossip blogger, to Rev Run, the best advice giver, and to Teachingjobcasts, which sends tweets about teaching jobs opening up across America.  I decided to write about celebrity in the sports world, Olympic gold medal gymnast, Shawn Johnson.

Shawn Johnson is an American gymnast who competes regionally, nationally, and internationally.  You could have seen her winning the gold medal for the balance beam in the 2008 Summer Olympics, a silver all-around medal, and a team silver medal.  She also competed and won last season’s Dancing with the Stars which I was a regular voter for her and teammate Mark Ballas.

Shawn has 42, 702 followers but is only following 45 people.  She follows other celebrities such as fellow gymnast Nastia Liukin and Ellen DeGeneres.  She also follows celebrities and dancers from this season’s Dancing with the Stars such as Melissa Joan Hart and Lacey Schwimmer.

Most of Shawn’s tweets are about the different campaigns she is a part of.  She has tweeted back to Melissa Joan Hart wishing her good luck on this week’s dance of DWTS.  She has tweeted about hoping Chicago’s chance to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.  She is promoting her followers to vote for Design-A-Dance and raising money for March of Dimes.  Aside from campaigns, she has tweeted personal things she is doing like hanging with friends or watching a movie.  Since Shawn Johnson is now considered a celebrity, her image has now changed.  Before she was a hopeful Olympic gymnast and now she is a national icon.  You can tell by her tweets and her following list that she has gotten to have some amazing opportunities and chances of a lifetime.

I follow Shawn Johnson because I have an interest in gymnastics.  I was a gymnast and cheerleaders for 15 years of my life and have regretted ever stopping.  Shawn Johnson can be an inspiration to a lot of young girls interested in her sport.

My twitter friends that I followed consisted of so many different people from friends, classmates, family, celebrates, special education teacher and also football players and some organizations that help my interest. When asked to pick a friend to complete this assignment, I want a person whose friends list was not to large nor too small. i wanted the friends to be diverse and not just one race. So I found one of my friends that I follow who met those criteria.

The person that I followed on twitter who I decided to pick to analyze their friends is @shamara99. Shamara also known as the Midday Princess works with a radio station in Philly, which is Power99 as a radio personnel. She is a really great and high spirited person that I love to follow on twitter because of her high spirit and her attitude great attitude she has towards life. I can tell that she has a great personality by her post on twitter everyday. Even though I may not know her personally and  do not know if she is really like this, just by her tweets and the things she post and from what I hear on the radio I highly respect her as an individual.

On twitter she has 5,483 followers. That is a really large number, for her to not be a big time movie star or music artist. That high number is because of the people who listen to her and want to feel closer to here when they are unable to get through to her when she is on air. Her friends are a variety of different people from normal people, celebrates,co-workers,family and personal friends. I see that Shamara is a very diverse person and does not discriminate. Her friends consist of many different people from different ages, backgrounds, race.  She also does have some celebrates on their. Being that she works with a popular radio station I believe that the people who are following her are following her to either get free tickets to concerts, they are interested in the radio production field and want to network with her to see what it is like or just to have a friend on twitter.

Shamara herself is following 1,909 and I am one of those people. She communicates with anyone and everyone. She is a tweet freak, she  tweets over 100 times a day. Her conversations are with normal people like you and me, but also with celebrates, family and friends. As I follow her she even has her own twitter dictionary. Her dictionary consist of curse words coded because while she is being friendly, she also has to keep her professionalism in mind because she does work for a big radio station. So if you need and interesting, motivating person to follow on twitter follow @shamara99

Here is a interview that Shamara had done with Jamie Fox

Rock the Boat for Autism October 1, 2009

So I was sitting on the beach in Sea Isle City on a gorgeous summer day on August 1, 2009.  My mom, my friend, and I then noticed a large group of people wearing blue shirts standing on the beach with tents and tables.  We wondered what was going on.  So being as curious as we are, we walked over to see what was all the craze.  We heard all the people start cheering and we lookd out in the ocean to notice 2 rowboats rowing up to the shore.  Turns out, 5 college guys from the surrounding area wanted to raise money for Autism Awareness.  Their organziation is called Rock the Boat for Autism.  They made it their mission to dedicate their whole summer to rowing 2 lifeguard rowboats from Boca Raton, Florida to Sea Isle City, New Jersey (That’s 1,500 miles..in a boat!).  From June 13, – August 1, these men rowed up the Atlantic Ocean facing many obstacles just to promote and raise money for Autism Awareness.

As a future Special Education teacher, I was actually so proud to see this happening.  When those guys jumped out of the boats on the shores of Sea Isle City, their families and friends swarmed them with hugs and high fives.  Most of the rowers had family members or friends that are affected by Autism.  For those of you who do not know what Autism is, Autism is a developmental disorder that makes it hard for people with this disability to communicte and interact with others.  Autism is characterized by a specific set of behaviors.  It affects a person differently depending on the “spectrum” and level of severity.  Some Autisitc people are very independant and can handle life’s situations and others will need care for the rest of their lives.  Researchers are not sure of the cause of Autism, some say it can be genetics and other say its outside sources such as vaccinations.

I love that there are people out there doing things bigger than themselves to help other people.  Autism doesn’t just affect the patient.  It affects everybody around them especially the family.  There is no known cure for this disorder but with many fundraisers and  increased awareness can help move research along.  I have come in contact with a few children with Autism or a level on the spectrum, one on a very personal level.  These children are so great to be around.  They are so happy and really just love life. So please, take a look at the Rock the Boat for Autism website and DONATE!  Even if you do not donate, please just raise your awareness! This is such a great cause money can be going too to help aid the patients and families!

Collaboration over the web October 1, 2009

With teaching becoming more technology friendly I have found there are a lot of sources on the internet to use.   The internet offers resources and examples of lesson plans, games, assessments, bulletins, and general ideas for the classroom.  Excluding from educational blogs and blogs written by teachers, there are websites available for all different things in the classroom.

Good ideas are built upon other concepts.  Teachers brainstorming and working together will be able to come up with the best ways to educate students.  If teachers collaborate then lessons will be taught at their fullest potential, this will lead to a more successful and beneficial experience for students, as well as teachers.  The internet offers opportunities for teachers in other schools to work off each other’s ideas and philosophies.

Professional learning communities are perfect examples of teacher collaboration.  In learning communities everyone is equal.  Teachers see each other as colleagues and use each other as resources instead of seeing other teachers as competition.  This propensity is by far the most beneficial for all parties involved; teachers, students, and administrators.  Professional learning communities result in teaching in a learning community.

Here are some websites that offer an insight on some lessons and ideas to use in our future classrooms.
